12th Street Rag by Euday L. Bowman arranged for saxophone quartet. When it was published in 1914 was one of the best-selling piano rags of the year. It caught on with band and orchestra leaders and later, filmmakers. It has been recorded by many artists, ranging from Louis Armstrong to Lester Young. Bowman worked as a bordello pianist and named the rag after the red light district in his hometown, Kansas City, Missouri.
This classic rag is great fun to play and your audience will be smiling when you’re finished. Your quartet will get quite a finger workout too! This quartet transcription of 12th Street Rag is intended for SATB saxophone quartet but an alto substitute for soprano part is included as well.
